Here We Are: Shanks Village Stories (1947-1954) with Richard Connolly • AT THE LIBRARY, IN-PERSON In-Person

Between 1947 and 1954, Richard Connolly lived with his family in Shanks Village, a cooperative community in Orangeburg located on the former Camp Shanks—the largest United States Army embarkation camp during World War II. Connolly will tell stories about life in this community and how a diverse group of people lived together as neighbors. Please join us and Richard at the library, in-person or on a ZOOM audio program. Watch the program live in-person at the library, or listen to it via ZOOM or Facebook Live from the comforts of your home.

RICHARD CONNOLLY is a producer and publisher with fifty-three years of experience as a college teacher. In 1995, Connolly presented a selection of Here We Are interviews at a United Nations World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen, Denmark. This led to a collaboration with UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in Paris, France, and Hamburg, Germany; and India National Television in New Delhi, India, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Registration required.
